Supporting tomorrow’s human rights leaders

Supporting tomorrow’s human rights leaders

For five years, from 2016-2020, James led the Communication and Advocacy course for Auckland University of Technology’s newly-established Master of Human Rights.

The programme seeks to equip a new generation of human rights leaders with practical skills and knowledge to make a lasting difference in their communities.

James shared hands-on skills in digital storytelling, advocacy and campaign planning, which students in the first intake used to prepare a documentary on the complex challenges facing homeless young people in Auckland, receiving significant coverage of their work.

“I never knew the power that a raw, vulnerable and honest story can have on its audience.”
