James has been a trusted member of the APF team since 2005, providing expert communications support that enhances our work and reputation. He manages our website, prepares our monthly electronic bulletin, develops written and video training resources and leads the APF media training program in countries across the region. He is creative, professional, dedicated and builds and maintains strong relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.
James put together a comprehensive communication strategy and media resources for our first Global Forum on Torture Prevention, held in Geneva in November 2011. He has a very good understanding of our organisation and our culture. He encouraged us to maintain regular contact with participants in the lead-up to the conference. Communicating in four different languages was a challenge but we did it and, thanks to his advice, participants came inspired to participate in the discussions and this contributed to the success of the conference. He also motivated us to become more active in using social media. I highly recommend James’ work. He is very professional, pays close attention to detail, meets every deadline and is also a great person to work with.
It was a privilege to work with James to record the 40th anniversary of our organisation. His skills in research, interviewing and writing resulted in a quality publication. He was professional in all aspects of the project and his genuine interest in the project was much appreciated. ‘Raising Voices’ has received much positive feedback and is a great tool for engaging with potential supporters.
The recording with the kids was fantastic. It was really important for them to hear each other’s stories and know what they’ve been through. It also provided them with the inspiration to reflect on where they’re going in their lives. They really enjoyed the recording sessions and rated your workshops as a highlight of the camp.
James is able to get across a challenging brief and synthesise complex policy issues into clear, easy-to-read language. We are always impressed with the quality of his work and he constantly maintains a clear focus on the most effective way to communicate our message. James’ superior communication and technical skills are complemented with a passion for social justice and a genuine interest in understanding the issues we work with.
James provided media liaison on sensitive and topical issues and led media skills training for Commissioners, managers and staff. He also developed a forward-looking communications strategy to help the Commission enhance its profile and influence positive change. He has unrivalled expertise in linking all aspects of media relations with a human rights perspective.
